History & Owners
The Trek Stop and Tropical Wings Nature Center are owned and operated by SUSA, Inc. Ltd., a Belizean company formed in 1996 as a joint venture between four Belizeans from San Jose Succotz and three Americans from Michigan. The company's name combines Succotz and U.S.A. into a single word and symbolizes the collaborative nature of our enterprise. Tino, John, Judy, Florita and Rojelio are the people responsible for the day-to-day running of The Trek Stop. Through their combined skills, knowledge, and talents, they have tried to make The Trek Stop the kind of place they would like to stay themselves. The name is a pun on "truck stop". It's envisioned as a place where travelers can relax for a few days or use as a base to explore Cayo District.
