Riverside Hotel

Dangriga Town, Stann Creek

Hotel Description
Situated at the corner of the main street and North Stann Creek River, the hotel is conveniently located downtown but retains a quiet atmosphere. The hotel is a former family home that was converted into an 11-room hotel with large shared bathrooms. The home-like setting is preserved with Victorian style antique furniture and a traditional "parlor" style sitting room. You can just imagine the stories that have been exchanged in this room over the years! The rooms are standard with a fan and with comfortable, imported mattresses for a good night?s sleep. Rates are less than US $12 per person, making this one of the lower-cost hotels in town on the Belize Explorer.

History & Owners
Earlier in the 1900s an Irish man met and married a woman from the islands of Honduras. Together they had five children, including the current owner of the hotel, Myrtle Sharon. After Myrtle?s children grew up and moved away in the 1970s they converted the family home to a guesthouse and hotel. One of her daughters, Betty Zabaneh still lives here and manages the hotel. They named it Riverside because of the location right next to the river.
