Martz Farm Treehouses & Cabanas Ltd.

Benque Viejo Town, Cayo

Hotel Description
The Martz Farm Treehouses and Cabanas Ltd. Offers rustic but charming hand-built cabins and treehouses, some with private bathrooms. Dorm-style accommodations with shared bathroom and shower facilities also available, campers welcome. Enjoy the lush jungle and fabulous bird-watching directly from your cabin, from a private waterfall or from the cool crystal clear tropical creek which flows through the premises and invites for a deliciously cool bath under the jungle canopy. Richly adorned with food trees, tropical flowers, a native orchid collection and a fine assortment of traditional Mayan medicinal plants we offer the opportunity to watch native wildlife in their natural habitat and the chance to learn about the ancient Mayan culture.

History & Owners
Hotel operates overwhelmingly without extra staff. Jose Martinez a native Belizean has lived on the farm since he was six and eventually developed the farm into a farm with guesthouses, where he shares his knowledge of the local environment and history of the area with his guests, preferably off of horse's or mule's back. Which is great way of exploring the jungle similarly to the chicleros 100 years ago. Miriam, his German-born wife originally came to Belize to study sustainable development practices and returned to the farm upon completion of her studies. Along with their three young children they run the accommodation service as well as the kitchen, which offers traditional family style meals cooked over Dona Martinez's 30 year old earthen fire hearth. Guests usually become part of the family for meal times, during the heat of the day when everyone heads for a cool-off to the creek, and whenever else they wish. Complete customized itineraries are also available,as well as a licensed tour operator services country-wide.
