Hotel Description

We have four roomy cabanas all with private bath, and two small sleeping huts with shared bath. Three of the cabanas are located on our beautiful sandy beach and one cabana and the sleeping huts at the Drumming Center. For groups: the beach cabanas sleep a total of ten persons and the Drumming Center accommodates six. All rooms have ceiling fan and electric kettle. All cabanas have fridge or electric cooler and beach cabanas have coffee maker. Our largest beach cabana has a kitchen and cooking privileges are available for an additional charge.

The Drumming Center is home to a group of local young drummers who perform some evenings. It is also center for local youths and children who learn and practice their cultural music. Interested visitors are encouraged to take drumming lessons, either as individuals or as a group. Lessons are by appointment only and have a small charge. When the Drumming Center is not being used for lessons or performance our guests are welcome to use the shady thatch space for relaxation or meals. It is a perfect space for groups to hold meetings. There is table seating for twelve and benches for additional guests.

History & Owners

Hector Lambey, "Jabbar", was born and raised in Hopkins. He has operated a business under the name "Lebeha" and featuring Garifuna Drumming at this location for more than ten years.

"Lebeha" has been operated as a business since the mid nineteen nineties, originally a restaurant/bar, featuring drumming; it was located on the site of the present Drumming Center. In 2003 the first open thatch Drumming Center was rebuilt, more drums were purchased and with the addition of "Drumming Center" to "Lebeha", emphasis was directed to the local youths who joined him to help keep their culture alive. In 2007 Jabbar added the thatch cabana and sleeping huts to the property and January 2008 saw two beach cabanas added to the inventory. The large beach cabana was moved onto the property in 2008 and will be ready for rental January 2009.

"Lebeha" is Garifuna for "The End". In the nineteen nineties this was the end of the village. Today it is still the end, your journey
